Dustless System

The Problem

Traditional floor sanding equipment uses a dust bag to collect and "filter" the dust collected during the sanding process. The bags are messy, difficult to empty, and don't hold much material. This requires a technician to empty the bag many times during a job.  Because the bag is the only source of filtration, the air flow through the bag and back into the job space will always contain the smallest particles of dust.  The problem is compounded because as the bag fills with material, it becomes a smaller "filter".  Due to increased back pressure from the partially full bag, the amount of fine dust which is blown through the bag increases.  This also affects the ability of the technician to collect dust from the floor and is often responsible for more dust being left behind or becoming airborne as the bag fills.

Quite simply, dust bags attached to sanders don't really work.

The Solution

Without a bag, the sander can function well.  The back pressure is eliminated and the dust pickup is very efficient.  However, something is still needed to collect and filter the dust.

Bill's Floor Sanding has invested in the very latest technology developed to solve the dust collection and filtration problem, resulting in a virtually dust free environment during and after the work project. The DUSTLESS SYSTEM utilizes four distinct processes to accomplish this.

The mechanical process involves the use of a cyclone, which is a centrifugal separator.  The separator uses gravity and airspeed to separate material from an air stream.

The cyclone spins the air stream and drops the dust into a dust cup.  The air stream leaves the cyclone and is again filtered through a high-efficiency cartridge filter.  The filter removes material to below 1 micron in size. The dust that is in the bottom cup is removed via a vacuum pump and compact hose.  The dust is continually removed as it is created and separated.  The pump moves the material into a 35 gallon drum containing a plastic bag.

The drum uses another small cyclone to drop the dust into the plastic bag. The air stream continues through a final filter that removes any fine dust from the air.

The problems stemming from the dust bags filling up, leaking and passing fine dust through are now gone.  The system eliminates the need for plastic sheeting or masking of room space. Filters stay cleaner longer because the cyclone removes most of the dust before it reaches the filter.  The system holds a large volume of dust, therefore eliminating the need to empty dust bags several times through the course of a job.  The plastic bag is self contained, and is discarded, eliminating the need to contact the dust or any waste material.

The health of our customers and our employees is ultimately more protected with the DUSTLESS SYSTEM.

Success Stories

I'm extremely pleased with the way the system worked.  Didn't have to put up any plastic at all. My wife came home to take a look and she was thrilled with the fact that there was no dust! She didn't look forward to doing months worth of cleaning and changing the furnace filter every week while we waited for the dust to go away.  - Syracuse NY homeowner.

No one else is even close to having the solution this system offers.  I did a 500 sq ft re-sand and finish the last couple of days. I sealed the floor last night, and this morning walked over to the ebony grand piano in the living room.  It has a gloss finish, and when I ran my finger across it, there was no dust.  No dust! I couldn't have claimed that was possible before, and while I am still reticent about making wild claims about being dustless, I'm getting closer.
